We spent a lot of time riding our HobGoblin test-bikes last year, and like many bike guys we couldn't just leave our own rigs stock. Most of our bikes had more expensive wheels and other components compared to the stock X7-level HobGoblin build. One day while enjoying some cold beverages after a long ride we started to have a serious discussion about whether or not we should also offer a higher spec version of the HobGoblin, and the outcome is what you see on this page.
The HobGoblin X0.
Here's what SRAM has to say about the X0 group on it's own website:
"SRAM X0 brings the right gear to your most heated trail battles—any terrain and every time. Building an X0 bike is a serious, zero compromise endeavor. Only X0 combines the highest-level technology options with a style that matches you perfectly. A flawless bike needs to do more than just work every ride; it needs to look the part. Heavy metal look. Crazy light weight. Build the Perfect Bike."
We couldn't agree more. For the HobGoblin we stuck with the 2x10 set-up because we're still convinced that 2x10 gearing is perfect for 29ers, especially now with the 38/24 gearing option that we picked.
The HobGoblin X0 shares the same great 100mm-travel modified twin-link suspension frame as the standard HobGoblin. Plenty of mud clearance and oversized sealed bearings means it will take a beating and keep performing for years. The 7000 series Aluminum frame is double-butted with a lot of new touches that we haven't used before: internal cable routing, direct-mount FD, and a PressFitGXP BB.
Handling the suspension and tuning duties is a RockShox Reba RLT (with 15mm thru-axle) up front coupled with a Monarch RL out back, and both can be locked out on the fly when needed. We love Sun-Ringle's Black Flag Pro wheelset and that's what we've decided to use on the X0. The Blag Flag Pro's are strong enough to be great every day wheels, yet light enough to stay on for race-day. In the box we've included all that you'd need to convert the wheels to tubeless if that's your thing.
We've spec'd-out the rest of the HobGoblin X0 with great stuff: Avid Elixir 9 hydraulic brakes, FSA SL-K carbon cockpit, Selle San Marco Ponza saddle, Maxxis IKON 29x2.2" tires, and Velo lock-on grips.
Average bike weight for a complete 17" bike is 27.4lbs.
If you are looking for a lower level of spec, we also offer the HobGoblin in an X7-level build. For those of you interested in frame-only's, don't despair. We offer the HobGoblin in a frame-only format too. The links for these are located at the bottom of this page.
